Women Selling to Men

My husband and I are writing a new book. We’re focusing on women selling products or services to men. It’ll be a comprehensive book on the process, techniques and personal aspects of selling.

And we’re looking for stories about women who have successfully sold to men. Send yours in and if we include it in the book, you’ll get a link to your website included in the book! Let us know your problems, too. We’ll do our best to help you find a solution.

Tell us all about your sale(s), and include your two favorite sales tips. Let us know what you did differently when you sold products or services to men compared to what you do if you are selling to women.

But this isn’t only for the women. Men can join in, too. Has a woman ever sold you a product or service? Why did you buy from her?

Or do you have women sales reps in your company? Are they more successful than the men? Why?

Post your comment and stories here and I’ll include the best ones in next week’s Brainy Tidbits. (It’s free if you aren’t already a subscriber. Subscribe today.)

    Hi Lois!

You’ve had some great ideas in your ezine, but to add a few of mine:

Women LOVE bargains, and will often buy things they don’t want or need IF they the get something for free. I know, I’ve done this numerous times, against my better judgement!

Also, while a woman will generally buy something to co-ordinate with her wardrobe, checking out competing stores’ wares for price, quality, fit, etc, a man will just go out and buy a shirt, if that’s what he needs.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Tracey,

Thanks. I actually have a cartoon that says this. Perhaps I can get permission to use it.

    Sounds good!

I’ve another one! In general women will pore over the details, whereas men seem to be OK with just the quick facts!

    Thanks!

    Hi there Lois,

Hope you’re having a faaabulous day!

In my experience the difference between women and men who want to buy websites is:

    * women want to know the visual stuff - if they can change the web page colors, the font colors, etc, as well as the security stuff - is it ’safe’ to sell products from their site; techie stuff comes in second

    * men on the other hand want to know all the techie bits first - how much storage space [MBs or GBs], monthly download amount, how many ftp accounts, add-ons [and types], upgrade path, how many email names etc - and secondly, whether they can have audio and video on the website; color of pages and fonts doesn’t come into the conversation.

Knowing that men and women think differently, I approach their questions in different ways, and focus on the things my experience has taught me is the best way to answer each of them.

I’m sure many people do this instinctively and don’t even realise they deal differently with men compared to women, but if we can recognize we do this, it’s very powerful. We can streamline two different ways to sell our product or service, targetted to the needs of each group.

My preference? A color-loving outgoing woman who knows her techie stuff! :-)

PS - thanks for the great newsletter!

    Hi Teena,

Thanks a bunch. Great ideas. It will be easy to work them into the book. Just in the nick of time, too! We’re finishing up the first draft and moving into the editing stage soon.

I’m glad you like my newsletter, Brainy Tidbits. It’s fun doing it.
